Treatment Options
Through conversation, contemplation and careful Chinese medicine diagnosis, an individualised treatment is created at each appointment that may include acupuncture, herbal support, and gentle lifestyle or seasonal guidance (read more about each area of treatment below).
Longer sessions create room for deeper inquiry — the constitutional patterns, symbolic themes and astrological insights that help clarify the wider story behind your health.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a key part of Chinese Medicine, with origins that can be traced back thousands of years. Treatment involves the use of very thin disposable stainless-steel needles (often as thin as a hair) inserted at specific points on the body. These points aren’t only related to muscles, tendons, nerves or areas of pain, but also to channels or meridians that in Chinese medicine theory influence the flow of qi, energy and blood through the entire body. Although it can sometimes be confusing for a new patient, the needles aren't put into the places where there is pain. A headache or nausea might be addressed for instance via distal points on the foot or wrist, based on meridian pathways. Some people report noticing sensations or shifts during treatment, such as stomach gurgling when digestive points are used, even when the needle is placed far from the area of concern.
In Australia, the study and practice of acupuncture is highly regulated, and a qualified acupuncturist learns over 300 acupuncture points and a wide range of techniques. Training includes detailed study of the body’s systems and conditions, and clinical hours cover:
-
Gynaecology, obstetrics and fertility
-
Mental health
-
Traumatology and musculoskeletal problems
-
Respiratory, digestive, vascular, and urinary systems
-
Eyes, ears, nose, throat and mouth
-
Nervous and endocrine systems
-
Insomnia and sleep disorders
While stronger styles of acupuncture such as musculoskeletal and trigger point have become popular in recent years, gentler styles of acupuncture are also available. These are especially suited to people with anxiety or heightened sensitivity, and a skilled practitioner will always craft a session that is as unique as the person in front of them.
After over a decade of treating a wide range of imbalances, Tina now focuses mostly on women’s health, face and jaw acupuncture, anxiety, stress relief and chronic pain support. You can read more about how she works in the “About” section.
*If you’re curious about trying acupuncture but aren't entirely sure if it's the right fit for you, you’re welcome to schedule a chat or come in for one session. There is no obligation to commit to multiple treatments, and during your appointment you can ask as many questions as you like.
Chinese Herbal Medicine
Leaves, twigs, roots, shoots, flowers, berries, seeds, mushrooms and/or shells are used in combinations, in either dried "raw herb", granule, or pill form to help put you on track to better health. In clinic Tina uses mostly granulated herbs for the convenience of patients. No animal products (except shells) or endangered species are used. Some of the herbs can even be used in cooking, and taste delicious (click here to read more about herbs).
Dietary Therapy & Seasonal Eating
The seasons change around us, and as they do, so do our specific nutritional, nourishment and health needs. Learn how to eat intuitively for where you are at in this present moment. Help align yourself with the seasons and cycles of the Earth and understand which foods will be most helpful and nutritious for you at different times, based on the 5 Element food system.
This way of eating is gentle, body positive, culturally inclusive, and supportive of your body's nourishment needs. It is not about dieting, fasting or detoxifying. Foods are not seen as "clean" or "dirty" but are looked at in terms of how wholesome or nourishing they might be. Tina works with patients to establish a healthy, pleasurable relationship with food and eating.
Holistic Lifestyle Counselling based on the principles of Classical Chinese Medicine
(the 5 Elements, Yin/Yang etc).
Living in harmony with Nature helps to promote health and longevity. It can also help us live a happier, more satisfying life. Learn how to balance your inner and outer environment by taking sleep, work, intimacy, exercise, breathing and emotions into consideration. *This is not a replacement for psychology or mental health support.
Elemental Astrology
The study of planetary and seasonal influences, and the Five Elements (Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, Wood) on individual health and well-being is an important part of the core teachings of Chinese Medicine. Just as the moon and the planets can be useful for understanding what to plant in a garden and when, so too can the cosmos be looked at and listened to for practical tips on how to live a healthier and more fulfilling life.
Each elemental astrology session begins with a brief setting of intention and then moves through the key stories in your star-chart from both Eastern and Western perspectives. Archetypes, patterns and themes are explored alongside the elemental energies you are most aligned with, and what these might reveal about your nature and the way you move through life.
Tina has been immersed in astrology since childhood, beginning with tropical Western archetypal and psychological astrology which she taught in her early 20s long before her formal training in Chinese medicine. Over the decades her work has expanded to include Chinese cosmological traditions, including the Four Pillars and the Five Elements. She also looks to the deeper motifs and elemental tendencies present in a person’s nature — the underlying themes that shape resilience, creativity, emotional life and direction. Her readings weave these strands together, integrating astrological, symbolic, psychological and seasonal frameworks to illuminate constitution and life path with clarity and nuance.
Readings take place face to face, over the phone, or via Zoom. They are 120 minutes in length.
Offered seasonally, during key energetic transitions.
Please note: all treatment options follow a clear cancellation policy. No-shows and appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice are charged the full fee. Thank you for helping keep treatment spaces fair and sustainable.
